The folks of I, Cringely published some thoughts by a guy called David Harrison, who proposes to replace the ICANN-dominated DNS infrastructure with a new kind, which is backed by new technology and stricter rules from the start.
I would really like to see the “Independent Network”
(“Inet”) be run by the open-source community. And I think we should
get started soon. If there are people knowledgeable of
whois databases and the DNS protocol, let’s get in touch. If you’re going
to be at FOSDEM 2007, let’s do
it live!
